Milly On Air {From Recovery to Radio 1, and the Power of Safe Dancefloors}

In conversation with the DJ and Host of Back 2 Life Podcast

This episode is with Milly On Air (Milly Chowles), a UK-based DJ, and founder of many things! For three years Milly has hosted important conversations through the Back 2 Life Podcast exploring recovery, mental health, and creativity. She also runs Embody, a club night which champions genre-defying electronic sounds, with an emphasis on inclusivity and connection. Before that, Milly built a career as a radio producer at the BBC, including five years producing the Radio 1 Residency, a journey that began while she was in rehab centre. This was a critical point in her own recovery journey and an experience that deeply shaped her relationship with music and mental health.

I’m most inspired by Milly as someone who is a fantastic DJ and artist, but is also sharing her honest account of an unconventional route into music as a profession, something she’s now taking further through her work as a coach. In this conversation, we discuss her career in broadcasting, being both behind-the-scenes and behind the booth, taking the leap into running her own platforms, and how she creates spaces that feel safe, and joyful. We also explore the intersections between nightlife and wellbeing, and the ways the dancefloor can become a place for transformation. Hope you enjoy!
